Many are still looking searching and hope to find relatives and belongings amid the rubble left from the February 26th earthquake that hit Chile overnight leaving many homeless and the death toll reaching hundreds.
It’s March and the searches continue in known areas that have been hit by these “so-called ‘natural’ earth events, even as those in diverse locations around the planet experience thousands of earthquakes that happen every day around the world.
Most are hardly felt, if at all. But sometimes pieces of Earth's crust suddenly slip past each other in a massive release of pent-up stress.
Magnitude-8 earthquakes occur globally, on average, just once a year. Since magnitudes are given on a logarithmic scale, an 8.8-magnitude is much more intense than a magnitude 8, and so this event would be even rarer, said J. Ramón Arrowsmith, a geologist at Arizona State University.
Is it all the foretelling of something ominous?
The Last Days, an online magazine that professes that they are; Telling The World About The Signs Of The Last Days Before The Return Of The Lord Jesus Christ

Reminds us of the scripture; "And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven."
Luke 21:11
The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that has essentially destroyed the nation of Haiti has refocused attention on the prophecies about earthquakes in the last days that we find in the Scriptures. Yahshua (Jesus) told us that we would see an increase in earthquakes as we approached His coming and that this would be a clear sign that the end times was at hand. Could the unusual shaking that we are currently seeing around the world be an indication that we are approaching the time prophesied almost 2000 years ago?”

Now with the Chili incident, and this newest one in Taiwan, we all wonder even more; are we safe from such things in most areas of the United States?
Well, no.
U.S. scientists are predicting that a Haiti-magnitude earthquake will strike along the New Madrid fault in the U.S. some time during the next 50 years.

The deadliest earthquake in recorded history rattled the Shensi province of China on Jan. 23, 1556, and killed an estimated 830,000 people.
According to Jack Coles, an earthquake forecaster, the recent series of quakes, including the 6.5 shaker off the Coast are possibly fore-shocks of something bigger yet to come. http://beforeitsnews.com/story/3522/Earthquake_Warning_for_Northern_California_and_Oregon.html

Quake Expected in Oregon and Northwest:
Just 50 miles off the Pacific Northwest coast is an earthquake hotspot that threatens to unleash on Seattle, Portland and Vancouver the kind of damage that has shattered Chile. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iFz_6L3X5KzE8JrgPc2gn343if5AD9E6OFF83
Research presented last year at a seismology conference found that Seattle high-rises built before 1994, when stricter building codes took effect, were at high risk of collapse during a superquake.

What the Chile earthquake did was slightly different, Gross says. When a giant quake occurs, it leads to a redistribution of the planet's mass, which in turn results in a kind of hitch in the figure axis. "The analogy I like to make is the tire on your car," Gross says. "The tire rotates about the axle, but if it's not balanced, it vibrates as it rotates. It wobbles."
As the shift incited by the Chilean quake grabs headlines, the planet is actually still in the midst of a recovery from a much more significant event.
According to geologist Thomas L. Holzer, two faults in the USA have the capacity to cause earthquakes of a similar magnitude to the Chilean quake. They are the Aleutian fault zone in Alaska and the Cascadia fault zone, which runs from northern California to Washington. http://www.theweek.com/article/index/106947/Quake_watch_is_America_next
AND WHEN, NOT IF A QUAKE HITS OREGON ARE YOU PREPARED?
If a major earthquake hit off the coast of Portland, Ore., experts say tall buildings would shake violently, and winds could carry broken glass as far as a half mile away.
They also say, similar to what happened in Chile, rubble would be everywhere and there would be casualties.

PREPARE!

I've gather the information for you that I think you will need in time of emergency!
After the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989 12,000 Bay Area residents found themselves displaced permanently or temporarily. Of those whose homes remained intact, many were temporarily without water, electricity and phone service.
In order to prepare for another such disaster SF Gate has compiled a list of supplies the American Red Cross recommends you keep on hand.
****THESE ARE THINGS YOU SHOULD HAVE AND WILL NEED IN CASE OF EARTHQUAKE OR OTHER CATACLYSMIC EVENT.
ESSENTIALS!
WATER
FOOD
FIRST AID
TOOLS, SUPPLIES
SANITATION
CLOTHES, BEDDING
DOCUMENTS
TO BREAK DOWN THAT LIST:
WATER
• Store water in plastic containers such as soft drink bottles. Avoid using containers that will decompose or break, such as milk cartons or glass bottles. A normally active person needs to drink at least two quarts of water each day. Hot environments and intense physical activity can double that amount. Children, nursing mothers, and ill people will need more.
• Store one gallon of water per person per day. Don't forget your pets.
• Keep at least a three-day supply of water per person (two quarts for drinking, two quarts for each person in your household for food preparation/sanitation).
• Change this water every six months. Household liquid bleach to kill microorganisms:
o Use only regular household liquid bleach that contains 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite. Do not use scented bleaches, colorsafe bleaches or bleaches with added cleaners.
o Add 16 drops of bleach per gallon of water, stir and let stand for 30 minutes. If the water does not have a slight bleach odor, repeat the dosage and let stand another 15 minutes.
The only agent used to treat water should be household liquid bleach. Other chemicals, such as iodine or water treatment products sold in camping or surplus stores that do not contain 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite as the only active ingredient, are not recommended and should not be used.
